Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (a.k.a. Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu) is a grappling art that was made popular in North America by the legendary Gracie family. BJJ concentrates on dominating your opponent by using angles, leverage, and superior body positioning to control your opponent’s body movement. A person that has gained a superior position is much more able to safely apply a finishing hold or to start striking, allowing a smaller person to defeat a much larger one.
At ZUMA, we have the honour and privilege to be associated with Marcus Soares of Vancouver, a 7th degree black belt of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and a student of Carlson Gracie. Adam is a student of Marcus’, and is very excited to pass on the tradition of excellence to his students. Oh yeah, and the gi’s look pretty cool, too.
