A Crappy Day

Here is an amusing (for you), yet unfortunate (for me) story. Yesterday I went out running with Rhino, got scared by a bird – albeit a large eagle – and then stepped in dog poop. That in itself is enough to ruin your day; never mind what was yet to come.

As I was driving back to the gym after my run, I got pulled over by the police. I was on a pretty quiet side street and couldn’t quite figure out why I had been pulled over. I wasn’t speeding, I wasn’t on my cell phone and I didn’t think it was illegal to have my dog on the passenger seat – so I really had no idea why I was sitting there waiting for the policeman to come talk to me.

As he approached, he told me he was pulling me over because of my muffler. NEVER would I have thought that I could be pulled over because of my muffler. Now, let me tell you that my car has given me some good service. It is a Pontiac Firefly that only has 118000 KM on it, and only cost me $1200 4.5 years ago. It’s muffler is disconnected, someone broke my side mirror halfway off and there are a few other things (like new tires) that are needed.

Anyway, I have digressed. He told me that he was pulling me over because of my muffler and that he needed my license and registration. While I was getting both of those out for him, he noticed the mirror that is hanging off my car, and asked me about that also. I told him that I had just taken my car in to figure out why it was loud (which wasn’t a lie) and that someone had broken my mirror off one night when they were leaving a club. He mumbled something and headed back to his car with my information.

Crazy few weeks, and it doesn't look like it's going to be slowing down!

The ZUMA team has been on a roll, and it doesn't look like it's going to be letting up. First I fought for Strikeforce winning their title, then we went 3-0 at AFC, then 4-0 at KOTC and tonight Ryan Ford fights for TFC. On Sunday, I'm heading to Indiana to teach a seminar at the GFight Summit in Indiana, then I'll be going to VA in April to teach a seminar then. In between, there is a grappling and BJJ tournament that I would love to compete in on April 10-11 at the MMA Expo in Abbotsford.

I hope that a good group from the ZUMA team is able to go out to Abbotsford, we've been doing so well in MMA, it's time for the ground guys to take the reigns for a while! I'll try and keep everyone posted from Indiana...but if you're able to, watch Ryan Ford fight for TFC!

Local Media - No; International Media - Yes?

Well I don't really understand Victoria media. I have been doing interviews with people ALL over the US and Canada...but the Times Colonist (Victoria's major paper) still hasn't been supportive. Today I have Ringside Radio, USA Today, Yahoo! Sports and Sports Illustrated Online Interviews. There have been some MMA writers in Victoria who have picked up the fight story...but even with us contacting Times Colonist...nothing.

I'm writing this because I'm sitting bored in my hotel room. I'm going to head down for a run in a few minutes and was just checking my schedule for the day - which got me thinking about Victoria's lack of support of athletes in sports other than soccer/ highschool sports/ hockey. Oh well - I'll keep doing my thing and maybe Victoria will catch up in a few years :)

3-0 at AFC!

Last night was a great night for the ZUMA team. Nick Dreidger, Diego Wilson and Josh Spong all won tough exciting fights in the very first round! I definitely wish that I had some of that pizazz LOL. Nick won by TKO, as did Josh, and Diego won by RNC. Unfortunately, Connor Wood's opponent dropped out the day of the weigh ins; so - while it is fun to cut weight and not fight - Connor was an awesome teammate and helped out behind the scenes.

A big thank you to ALL of the ZUMA team: sparring partners, fans, and most importantly our coach, ADAM ZUGEC!!!

Last hard training day is done!

Today was a great day for quite a few reasons: 1) It was my last really hard training session before I head down to San Jose to fight for the Strikeforce 135lb Title; 2) The session felt AWESOME; 3) I finished all the last errands I needed to do before leaving (at least I think) I feel the best that I have felt in a camp to date…and it’s a good thing since Takayo Hashi is definitely a tough opponent. I have even heard that Hashi has says it’s going to be a stand-up fight – YIPPEE!!!!

I will try and keep as up to date as possible while I am away. I fly out Monday morning, weigh in Thursday and then fight on Friday. It’s going to be a great week! Thank you to EVERYONE who has helped me get this far:

Adam Zugec – my AWESOME coach…except when he pants’ me in public places!

Tyler Goodale – my strength and conditioning coach who makes me ride the DEATH bike :)

My ZUMA Teammates – Andrew Jorgensen, Nick Driedger, Connor Wood, Diego Wilson, Tyler Nicholson, Tarek Gebali, Tyler Dolby and the rest of the ZUMA Crew – You guys rock

My sponsors –  Taking Care of Business (TCB), PerformanceMMA, MTX Audio and Clinch Gear

Enjoy the weekend!
